website design packages

Quick Takeaways

  • A web design package is a fixed-price bundle that includes a set number of pages, design, mobile setup, basic SEO and launch.
  • Small business packages usually fall into three tiers: starter ($500–$1,500), standard ($1,500–$4,000) and premium ($5,000–$15,000+).
  • The biggest differences between tiers are page count, how custom the design is, who writes the content, and what happens after launch.
  • Hosting, maintenance, copywriting and photography are the items most often left out of the price.
  • Monthly website packages ($50–$300/month) are an alternative that spreads the cost and includes upkeep.

A web design package is a fixed-price bundle of website services, usually a set number of pages, a custom or template-based design, mobile optimization, basic SEO setup and launch. Small business packages typically cost $500–$1,500 for a starter site, $1,500–$4,000 for a standard 5–10 page site, and $5,000–$15,000 or more for a premium custom site.

Packages make pricing easier to compare, but two “5-page packages” can include very different things. This guide breaks down what you typically get at each price, what’s often left out, and how to compare packages side by side.

What Is a Web Design Package?

Instead of quoting every project from scratch, most designers and agencies bundle their services into packages with a fixed price and a fixed scope. A package tells you up front how many pages you’ll get, how many rounds of revisions, what’s included at launch, and how long it will take.

Packages protect both sides: you know the price before you commit, and the designer knows the scope. The catch is that anything outside the package (extra pages, features or revisions) is usually billed separately.

What’s Included in a Website Design Package?

Most packages are built from the same five components. What changes between tiers is how much of each you get:

  1. Design: a template customized to your brand, or a fully custom layout.
  2. Pages and development: a set number of pages built and working on desktop and mobile.
  3. Content: either you supply the text and photos, or the package includes copywriting and image sourcing.
  4. SEO setup: page titles, descriptions, headings, a sitemap, and connection to Google Search Console.
  5. Launch and handoff: going live, plus training, a set support period, or ongoing hosting and care.

Freelancers usually sit at the lower end of each range and agencies at the higher end. For a detailed look at who charges what, see how much it costs to hire a website designer.

What Most Web Design Packages Leave Out

These are the costs that turn a $2,000 package into a $4,000 first year:

  • Hosting and domain: often $10–$50 a month for hosting and $10–$30 a year for a domain.
  • Maintenance after launch: updates, backups and security, usually $35–$300 a month. See what a website care plan includes.
  • Copywriting: often $100–$500 per page if the package expects you to write it.
  • Photography and a logo: stock licenses, a photo shoot or a brand refresh.
  • Extra revisions and pages: anything beyond the stated rounds or page count.
  • Plugins and paid tools: premium themes, booking software, form tools and email marketing.

One-Time Packages vs Monthly Website Packages

Traditional packages are paid upfront: you pay for the build, then handle hosting and upkeep yourself or pay extra for them. Monthly website packages work differently. You pay a flat monthly fee that covers design, hosting, maintenance and content changes, with little or nothing upfront.

How to Compare Web Design Packages

Put each quote side by side and check the same things:

  • Page count: does it cover every service and location page you need?
  • Design: template, customized template, or fully custom?
  • Content: who writes the text and supplies photos?
  • SEO: titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap, Search Console and analytics?
  • Revisions: how many rounds, and what happens after that?
  • Timeline: when will the site launch, and what do they need from you?
  • Ownership: will you own the domain, the site and all the logins?
  • After launch: who hosts it, who updates it, and what does that cost?

Red Flags in a Web Design Package

  • A price that seems too good to be true with no clear page count or revision limit.
  • The designer registers the domain in their own name. Your domain should always be in your name.
  • No mention of mobile design or SEO setup. Both should be standard in 2026.
  • No written scope or contract. If it isn’t written down, it isn’t included.
  • No plan for after launch. A site with no maintenance plan starts falling behind on day one. See what website maintenance costs a small business.

Web Design Package FAQs

What is a web design package?

A fixed-price bundle of website services with a defined scope, usually a set number of pages, design, mobile setup, basic SEO and launch.

How much does a website design package cost?

Most small business packages cost $500–$1,500 for a starter site, $1,500–$4,000 for a standard 5–10 page site, and $5,000–$15,000 or more for a premium custom site.

What is a reasonable price for website design?

For a typical 5–10 page small business website, $1,500–$4,000 with an experienced freelancer is reasonable. Agency builds of $5,000–$15,000 make sense when the site needs custom design, copywriting or integrations.

Is web design still worth paying for in 2026?

Yes, if your website brings in customers. Builders and AI tools make it easy to get a site online, but a professional site that loads fast, ranks in Google and turns visitors into calls is still worth paying for.

Can AI build my website?

AI website builders can produce a basic site quickly, and they’re useful for first drafts. You’ll still need to check the content is accurate, set up SEO properly, and keep the site maintained, which is where most of the value is.

Are monthly website packages worth it?

They are if you want predictable costs and don’t want to manage hosting, updates and changes yourself. Over three years, a monthly plan often costs about the same as a one-time build plus maintenance. See what website management includes for the full list.
